Not Your Pup's Garden

Spring is here, and with the beautiful weather we've been having you've no doubt been planting your gardens and getting outdoors. If you're like me, you'd be pretty frustrated if the family dog trampled through the garden, but did you know that it could also be deadly?

Here are some common garden and household plants that can be poisonous to your pet.
This may not represent a complete list of all poisonous plants. Also, your pet may have a sensitivity or allergy to a plant that is not on the list, resulting in toxicity. Always contact your veterinarian immediately if you think your pet may have ingested a poisonous plant.

Several recent reports of dogs having kidney failure after ingesting large amount of grapes or raisins has the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center investigating to determine the causative agents or disease processes.

Happy Ending

Evie's friends here at Care's Clippers were so sad when she suddenly took ill at Easter. Her family brought her to Southern Maine Veterinary Care in Lyman and waited for the worst.

Fortunately, this week, the worst did not happen. Dr's Hunt and Hutchins removed her spleen, which was 5 times the average size. Since then, Evie's been eating and playing and back to her old self (jumping on the table and all)!

An important part of any dog's healthy lifestyle is to get good grooming! Trimming nails helps the dog walk and run without undo stress on joints, clean ears prevent infection and a nice bath/massage helps relax any stressed-out pooch. Nothing beets the great medical attention of veterinarians like Evie's, or the love of her owners, but grooming is all part of that healthy balance!

We're so glad you're on-the-mend, Evie!

Maggie's Makeover

When Maggie the "Motorcycle Dog" came in for her Spring grooming recently, I quickly saw that this was going to be an all-out makeover for her!

Maggie is a regular customer who often brings in her dad, owner of Rosebud Tattoo in Saco. Maggie's Spring cut is extra important to her, because her new "do" allows her to fit her motorcycle goggles on for her fun bike trips with dad.

At Care's Clippers, every dog, and each grooming is important. But just look at Maggie's before and after photos and you'll see that sometimes, one just stands out!
